Study Visit and Workshop: Strengthening Collaboration between UNISMA and Yala Rajabhat University



The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA) proudly hosted representatives from Yala Rajabhat University (YRU) from Thailand on July 10, 2025, for a significant study visit and workshop aimed at enhancing collaborative efforts between the two institutions in research and academic exchange. This initiative is part of UNISMA’s ongoing commitment to establish and strengthen international relationships with various higher education institutions worldwide.
The event commenced with an opening ceremony featuring welcoming remarks from Dr. Ena Marlina, the Rector of UNISMA. In her speech, Dr. Ena expressed gratitude for the presence of the YRU delegation and highlighted the importance of collaboration in improving educational standards at both institutions. She emphasized that this meeting is just the beginning of a potential partnership that can lead to impactful research and educational initiatives.
Following Dr. Ena was Assistant Professor Dr. Eleeyah Saniso, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Agriculture at YRU. In her address, Dr. Eleeyah underscored the necessity of academic collaboration, stating that it allows for the sharing of knowledge and resources that benefits both universities. Her remarks resonated with attendees, setting a positive tone for the discussions to follow.
The workshop featured several informative sessions, showcasing the latest research and developments in engineering and technology. The first workshop session, led by Akhmad Faruq Alhikami, ST., M.Sc, focused on “Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery,” providing insights into innovative methods of energy conversion which are crucial for sustainable development.
The second session, presented by Prof. Dr. Ir. Eko Noerhayati, MT, revolved around “Innovative Model of Efficient Irrigation Gates with Maximum Power Point Tracking Photovoltaic (MPPT PV) Based on IoT.” This topic addressed the integration of smart technologies in enhancing agricultural practices.
In the third session, M. Jasa Afroni, ST., MT., Ph.D elaborated on “Solar Panel Performance Testing & MPPT Optimization in Solar Panel Operation.” This session was vital for understanding the efficacy and optimization of renewable energy systems.
YRU representatives also actively engaged in the workshop, presenting their research findings, which enriched the dialogue and fostered collaboration between both institutions.
A highlight of the visit was the laboratory tour at UNISMA’s Faculty of Engineering. During this segment, participants explored various research facilities, including the Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Material Science Laboratory. Faculty and students provided detailed explanations of ongoing research projects, offering a glimpse into UNISMA’s commitment to cutting-edge innovation and practical education.
The day culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNISMA and YRU, formalizing the partnership between the two institutions. Dr. Ena Marlina and Assistant Professor Dr. Eleeyah Saniso officiated the signing, marking a significant milestone in their collaborative journey. After the ceremony, both leaders expressed their commitment to pursuing joint initiatives that would be beneficial not only for their institutions but also for the broader community.
The event wrapped up with a networking session, allowing participants to connect on a personal and professional level. This informal gathering provided an excellent opportunity for attendees to discuss their experiences, explore future collaboration possibilities, and foster friendships that could lead to fruitful partnerships.
